Nuisance fires in the Kensington area are being addressed through the newly launched interagency Nuisance Fire Task Force. The Task Force, which launched on Monday, November 18 in the 24th and 25th Police Districts will operate nightly from 8:00 pm until 4:00 am and will operate through March 2025. For info about the Task Force, call the Fire Prevention Unit at (215) 686-1382.

The departments involved are the Office of Public Safety (OPS) alongside the Managing Director’s Office, the Philadelphia Fire DepartmentPhiladelphia Police Department, and the Office of Clean and Green Initiatives The focus of the Task Force will be on: 

  • Extinguishing rubbish fires in the Kensington area,  
  • Maintaining safety on the scene,  
  • Removing debris, and 
  • Connecting individuals in the area with social service resources.
The task force will not be targeting trash-can fires people use to keep warm unless they are too close to a structure or otherwise pose a danger.
