How do I obtain a passport?
Interested residents must call the 
Office of Judicial Records Passport Office (215) 686-6654, Room 284 City Hall, www.courts.phila.gov/passports/, 10 am - 3 pm, Monday - Friday first and make an appointment or use the US Department of State Passport Office at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast/passport-agencies/philadelphia.html

For public inquiries and status checks, dial
(877) 487-2778No passport will be submitted after 3 pm. Children 15 and under need both parents' consent.
If only one parent is applying, a notarized consent DS-3053 form from the other parent is needed & front/back copy of identification.

You Should Know:
Applications are available in person, at your nearest post office, or online at travel.state.gov.
To check on the status of an application use https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en.html.
In addition to the fee, a new book or card requires an Acceptance fee of $35.
  • A new routine passport book for a person 16 years of age and over is $130.00 and is valid for 10 years
  • A new routine passport book for a person 15 years of age or under is $100.00 and is valid for 5 years
  • A routine passport card is $15.00 for 15 yrs and under or $30.00 for 16yrs and over - Please allow at least 4 to 6 weeks for delivery
  • An expedited passport book for anyone is an additional $60. 1-2 day delivery is an additional $19.53.

  • A renewal of a passport book is $130.00 a passport card is $30.00 for a person 16 years of age and over.
Please remember that the Passport fee and the Office of Judicial Records fee are made separately.
The Office of Judicial Records fee is 
$35.00 per applicant Cash, a Money Order, or a Major Credit Card (not a check) is acceptable for this fee only.


If a passport is needed within 14 days, you must appear in person at the U.S. Customs House in Philadelphia by appointment only. Call (877) 487-2778 to make an appointment.

Further Information:
The following documents are needed for a passport:
  1. Previous passport Certificate of Naturalization or Birth Certificate with both parent's names on the document (long form)
    You must request a long-form birth certificate from the Office of Vital Records. The cost is the same as a short form.
  2. Current driver’s license or State issued identification (not a city-issued ID)
  3. If you have an out-of-state driver’s license or state identification you’ll have to submit a second piece of identification: ex (school/college id, work id, social security card, or health insurance card)
  4. One 2” x 2” photo with a white background
