What is the function of the Department of Records?
The Department of Records
(215) 686-2290 www.phila.gov/records Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, manages public access to municipal records and establishes and collects fees to cover the cost of providing copies of records. As an agent for the Commonwealth and the City Revenue Department, the Department of Records also collects realty transfer taxes and document recording fees and, as the official City tax registry, maintains the city's real property database and tax maps.

You Should Know:
The Department of Records sets records management standards and procedures for all City departments, boards, commissions, and agencies, and manages key records operations and services such as the City Archives 
(215) 685-9401, the Records Storage Center, the Recorder of Deeds, and Central Reprographic Services. of ownership of properties located in Philadelphia and documents recorded within the Records Department and information on those documents as well as provides copies for a fee of the documents recorded in the Records Department such as deeds, mortgages, assignment of mortgages, and satisfaction of mortgages and notaries.

 
Appointments are again required for the recording of documents in person.

All other Department of Records offices do not require an appointment.

(215) 686-2290/92 recording.info@phila.gov  for information and deedcopy.info@phila.gov to find out the exact number of pages of a deed ahead of time, Monday - Friday: 9 am - 4 pm, where filers bring documents to be recorded, is responsible for recording and/or filing any legal instrument connected with title to real estate in the City of Philadelphia and various commissions, judges commissions and oaths, military discharges, and charters for corporations doing business in Philadelphia.
